saying feminism is unnecessary because you don’t feel oppressed is like saying fire extinguishers are unnecessary because your house isn’t on fire

New York Film Academy’s study of gender inequality in the film industry.

The reality is that so-called pro-life movement is not about saving babies. It’s about regulating sex. That’s why they oppose birth control. That’s why they want to ban abortion even though doing so will simply drive women to have dangerous back alley abortions. That’s why they want to penalize women who take public assistance and then dare to have sex, leaving an exemption for those who become pregnant from rape. It’s not about babies. If it were about babies, they would be making access to birth control widespread and free and creating a comprehensive social safety net so that no woman finds herself with a pregnancy she can’t afford. They would be raising money for research on why half of all zygotes fail to implant and working to prevent miscarriages. It’s not about babies. It’s about controlling women. It’s about making sure they have consequences for having unapproved sex. How I Lost My Faith in the Pro-Life Movement by Libby Anne, Patheos: Joy, Love, Feminism (via mollyisnotadogsname)

"We live in a world where losing your phone is more dramatic than losing your virginity"

Um ok but I don’t recall my virginity having 16 GB of memory with all my contacts, music, photos, calendars, and apps or costing over $200.

my phone is an expensive and important material object and not a useless social construct put in place to shame and commodify women

Plus I remember where I lost my virginity.

AMEN TO THAT COMMENT

articulateasfuck said: Id like to consider myself a male feminist, but my question is: what can I do to actually help and not just be a keyboard activist? NOT being a POS misogynist/rapist/pig/fuck face? Done. My mom raised me lol.. nothing but respect and love! :)

Excellant question! This is a question i always ask myself, how do I a male be an ally or even a comrade to the feminist movement and struggle. my favorite quote is, and I’m paraphrasing, is i don’t need to take up any space in feminism, instead i need to make male dominated spaces and make them feminist. So basically in every situation try to bring out love, compassion, and empathy and understanding while as acknowledging others when they do it. just always remember to listen to voices of women and their problems concerning oppression.

some minor things you can do is sign online petitions effecting women, donate to organizations, join social media campaigns, write letters to congressmen, general education of others.

Some major things would be join an organization, join protests, join walks such as Take Back the Night, volunteer at local women shelters. And openly admit to others your a feminist. and don’t be ashamed. Oh also call out sexism of others and your friends. Don’t let them make rape jokes and demeaning jokes towards women. If they do ask them “i don’t get the joke can you please explain it to me.”

I hoped that helped. To be honest i’m still a young organizer who has a lot left to learn, but those are some things i’ve activity part in!

Reblogging, because it’s excellent advice for anyone.
